CRYING
I cried when the old dog slipped on the laminate floor
I cried at the Duolingo bear’s kind smile
And the cartoon worm wearing a sunhat on a cheap bag of sweets
I cried when Dom collapsed on Race Across the World
And when I heard the song on Killing Eve about giving someone your heart
I cried when I fell palms-first into the stinging nettles
(I think anyone would cry if they fell palms-first into some stinging nettles)
And I cried at the sound of lambs bleating in the thrall
I cried at the thought of you going away
I cried at nothing at all
But I was still happy
Don’t ever think you made me sad
Not really
Even when the puke filled the bathtub and clogged the plughole with spaghetti
I was still happy
