jellyfish II

Drawing by Josie Heckles

Through tempered glass at Sea Life see
The jellyfish, rainbow serene
Translucent bells and tentacles
Plucked from the saline sea

You’re off the hook behind the tank
Though peaceful blooms on paper
If you upset a jellyfish
They’ll sting, it’s in their nature

When the current’s fierce and warm
Washed up on sea-pressed sands
Lay foreign alien visitors
From foreign alien lands

Come high tide they’re at sea again
The life cycle ensues
And still behind the tempered glass
The others, unremoved
